History of Lobel's
Celebrating 110 years
Our story begins in 1913.
My great grandfather, Morris Lobel, established the first Lobel's department store in Union City, NJ. Since then, the business has grown through management by three additional generations of men and women.
Lobel's first opened as a children's department store, providing clothing for boys & girls from babies to teens. Taking over in 1955, my great grandfather's son, Melvin, began carrying uniforms for schools in New York & New Jersey.
In 1976, Lobel's started to specialize exclusively in school uniforms. Despite the adjustment in the store's priority, the most important thing remained the same; our belief in old-time personal customer service.
David Lobel took over for his father, Melvin, in 1972; and for over fifty years has continued to provide the finest quality merchandise and customer service; to which we attribute to the store's continued success. In 2022, David brought in the 4th generation of the Lobels to work alongside him; his niece, Laurin.
My family and I are excited to announce our updated website equipped with high-tech online ordering that is easy to navigate. We are also proud to maintain the same personalized customer service that I have known since working in the store as a teen.
As a family oriented business, our employees have become an extension of our family, as we are a part of their's.
- Laurin Lobel
"It’s a family-type atmosphere, and sometimes you can see the same faces for 20 years. We have a good reputation. We follow the blueprint of success that was started by my grandfather, and we still run the store in an old-fashioned way where the customer comes first." - David Lobel
